Authorities ordered further evacuations in Queensland as of Tuesday, September 10, due to ongoing bushfires in the area. Residents of the Sunshine Coast had to evacuate in the early morning (local time), bringing the total to 5000 evacuated residents over the last 24 hours.
Winds are expected to ease as of Tuesday, September 10. However, authorities warned that the fire remains volatile. Further transportation and business disruptions are to be expected in the vicinity of the bushfires over the coming days.
Heavy winds caused bushfires across Queensland and New South Wales on September 9. Officials stated that thousands of hectares of land were affected in both areas and an emergency situation has been declared for Peregian Springs and Peregian Beach in Queensland, prompting evacuations in these areas. Winds have also caused the closure of a runway at Sydney Airport (SYD) for three hours on the morning of September 9.
Individuals in Queensland are advised to exercise caution when traveling in areas near bushfires, adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities (e.g. evacuation orders), and monitor the situation.
