Supporters of Congress leader Doddalahalli Shivakumar are gathering in Bangalore (Karnataka state) at 11:00 (local time) on Wednesday, September 11, to protest his incarceration. Several thousand people are expected to begin the march at the National College Grounds before heading to Raj Bhavan, where they plan to submit a memorandum to Governor Vajubhai Vala. State authorities have announced increased security measures for the event, including the deployment of an additional 10,000 police officers in the state capital, as well as the installation of over 500 CCTV cameras along the march route. In anticipation of significant traffic, local police also announced traffic diversions on several roads including Palace Road.
A heightened security presence and localized transportation and business disruptions, particularly heavy traffic, are expected across the state.
On Tuesday, September 3, the Enforcement Directorate arrested Shivakumar on money laundering charges.
Individuals in Bangalore, and India in general, are advised to monitor developments to the situation, avoid all protests and demonstrations as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
