Civil society group Urgence Panafricaniste has called for a protest to be held in Lomé on Saturday, September 14, to denounce the use of the CFA franc currency and denounce what they perceive as persisting French influence over its former colonies. Protesters are expected to gather at 14:00 (local time) at the Hanoukope district of the capital.

A heightened security presence along with localised transportation disruptions are likely in the vicinity of the protests.

Individuals in Lome are advised to avoid all demonstrations as violence may flare up without warning.
