Event

Environmental activists are planning several demonstrations in Paris on Friday, September 20, through Saturday, September 21, to bring attention to climate change. On Friday, participants plan to strike and protest in all educational institutes. Organizers have also called for a march at 12:30 (local time) leaving from Place de la Nation.

On Saturday, environmental activists along with "Yellow Vest" protesters have called for a joint demonstration in Paris, to denounce perceived inaction from the government on social issues. Protesters are expected to gather at 10:00 (local time) on Avenue des Champs-Elysées. Associated protests are likely in other urban centers across the country.

Security forces in the capital may cordon off the areas surrounding the Champs-Elysées, the Elysée Palace, the National Assembly, and Notre-Dame during the protests to prevent acts of violence and vandalism.

Additional «Yellow Vest » protests are to be expected across France over the coming weeks, particularly on Saturdays. A heightened security presence is anticipated near all demonstrations. Localized transportation and business disruptions are likely near protest sites, and clashes between security forces and protesters cannot be ruled out.

Advice

Individuals in France are advised to monitor developments to the situation, avoid all protests due to the risk of violence, budget extra time to reach their destinations if traveling through areas affected by demonstrations, and adhere to any instructions issued by the local authorities.
