Several journalist and civil society organizations are calling for a protest in Beirut on Wednesday, September 18, to show support to the editor-in-chief and the director of the Nida' el-Watan newspaper. Both have been put under investigation following a controversial article published in the newspaper on Thursday, September 12, in which President Michel Aoun is criticized for his alleged links to Hezbollah and Iran.

A heightened security presence and localized transport disruptions are expected near the protest site.

Individuals in Beirut are advised to monitor developments to the situation, avoid all protests and demonstrations as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
