A failure in the Central American Electrical System caused widespread disruptions following a major power outage that impacted Honduras, Nicaragua, El Salvador, and Guatemala on Monday, September 16. The power outage occurred at approximately 11:55 (local time) and caused full blackouts in Honduras and Nicaragua. Severe transportation disruptions were reported in both countries, particularly in Tegucigalpa and Managua. El Salvador and Guatemala experienced partial outages. The blackout persisted until approximately 19:10 on Monday evening, and, as of Tuesday, September 17, it remains unclear where the fault in the system originated.


Individuals in affected areas are advised to monitor developments, anticipate associated disruptions, and ensure electronic and battery-operated devices are fully charged when possible.
