As of Monday, September 16, heavy rain and associated thunderstorms which have hit the country, including the capital Dakar since the end of August, have caused the deaths of around 20 people. On Monday, September 16, a tourist boat capsized off the coast of Dakar, killing four people.

Heavy rains are expected to continue over the coming days. Associated disruptions, including transportation disruptions, are likely in affected areas. Power outages are also possible.

Individuals in the affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports, avoid areas directly affected by flooding, confirm road conditions and flight reservations before setting out, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities. Avoid walking or driving through floodwaters; 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult.
