The Egyptian Ministry of Interior announced on Wednesday, September 18, that security forces killed nine suspected militants during raids in Cairo's Obour and 15th of May neighborhoods. The militants were reportedly members of the Revolution Brigade, a breakaway faction of the banned Muslim Brotherhood group. Weapons were reportedly seized at the two sites following exchanges of gunfire between security forces and the militants.
Similar counterterrorism raids are to be expected in Egypt over the near term.
Individuals in Egypt are advised to monitor developments, adhere to instructions issued by local authorities and their home governments, report suspicious behavior and objects to the authorities, remain vigilant when visiting areas susceptible to terror activity (e.g. tourist sites, churches, international and government buildings, public transportation hubs, etc.), and anticipate similar security operations over the near term.
