Indian government bans the sale, production, and import of electronic cigarettes on September 18; adhere to local regulations

India’s Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced on Wednesday, September 18, that an executive order has been passed banning the sale, production, and import of electronic cigarettes in the country. However, the ban does not include the use of electronic cigarettes. According to officials, the new measures were put in place for public health reasons and to prevent an “epidemic” of use among young people. Individuals found violating the ban may be subject to three to five years in prison and fines.


Individuals in India are advised adhere to all local regulations.
