Political activists are calling for all Egyptians to participate in nationwide demonstrations on Friday, September 20, to oppose the government of President Fattah el-Sisi and general corruption. Supporters are being asked to gather starting at 17:00 (local time) throughout the country. In Cairo, demonstrators will reportedly rally at Galaa Square. As of Thursday, September 19, it is unclear how well attended the gatherings will be. Heightened security measures are anticipated in major urban areas, particularly in Cairo. Associated traffic disruptions are also expected. Security forces may use force to disperse crowds that do gather for the demonstrations. Clashes between protesters and security forces cannot be ruled out.

Individuals in Egypt, particularly in Cairo, are advised to monitor developments to the situation, avoid all demonstrations as a precaution, anticipate a heightened security presence and traffic disruptions, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities and their home governments.
