Around 200 protesters, including students, entered the Natural Ressources and Environment Ministry compound located in the Ari area of the capital Bangkok on the late morning (local time)on Friday, September 20, to protest government's perceived inaction on climate change. The Ministry was supportive of the action and accepted a letter from protesters.
Lingering transportation disruptions are likely in front of the Ministry and across Bangkok in the coming hours.
The demonstration was part of a worldwide protest movement, taking place in 150 countries, to demand environmental action ahead of the United Nation Emergency Climate Summit in New York on Monday, September 23.
Individuals in Bangkok are advised to monitor the situation, anticipate crowds, localized disruptions, and a heightened security presence near demonstrations, and avoid all public or political demonstrations as a precaution.
