China will celebrate its 70th National Day on Tuesday, October 1. A full rehearsal of events is to take place in Beijing between Saturday, September 21, and Monday, September 23. The Beijing Traffic Management Bureau announced several road closures in the Tiananmen area and Chang'an Avenue from Saturday through Monday, the details of which can be found here. Though rail services have not been affected, several subway stations were reportedly closed during similar rehearsals between September 14-16. Public bus routes may be altered due to road closures.
A heightened security presence is expected throughout the capital during the rehearsal, as well as associated transportation disruptions, including road closures and public transport delays and cancelations.
Individuals in China, particularly in Beijing, are advised to monitor the situation, anticipate increased travel times due to high traffic and increased security measures, and adhere to any instructions issued by the local authorities. Be alert and report any suspicious objects or behavior to local authorities.
