Unions representing Alitalia flight personnel and airport ground staff have reportedly called off a countrywide strike that was planned for Monday, September 23, from 10:00 to 14:00 (local time), after union leaders and Alitalia reached an agreement on a funding extension early on Monday. Airline services are expected to operate normally. An additional strike is scheduled for Wednesday, October 9, between 00:01 and 23:59. As of Monday evening, neither the unions nor the airline have commented on whether this strike will continue as planned.
Flight disruptions, including delays, modified timetables, and last-minute cancelations, are possible if the work stoppage does take place.
Transportation-related strikes are frequent in Italy and can be highly disruptive. However, in accordance with Italian law, minimum levels of services must be guaranteed during all industrial and social actions.
Individuals flying via airports in Italy are advised to keep abreast of the situation, confirm the status of their flights prior to departure for the airport, and anticipate flight and airport service disruptions during any work stoppage.
