Civil rights advocates have called for a rally in support of Honk Kong pro-democracy protests on Sunday, September 29, ahead of Chinese National Day celebration on Tuesday, October 1. Protesters will gather around 15:00 (local time) at Jinan Road and march through Ximending and Taipei Lain Station before returning to Jinan Road for a rally expected to last until 21:00. More than 100 civil groups and their supporters are expected to attend the march.
Heightened security measures and localized traffic disruptions are anticipated around the protest. Since Friday, September 20, clashes between students over Hong Kong protests were reported in four universities across the island.
Individuals in Taipei are advised to monitor developments, avoid all protests and demonstrations as a precaution, and anticipate a heightened security presence and localized business and transportation disruptions around protest sites.
