A protest is scheduled at Martyr's Square in Tripoli on Friday, September 27. Protesters are expected to gather at 17:00 (local time) to denounce the Libyan National Army's (LNA) recent attacks on Tripoli. Associated protests are possible in other GNA-controlled towns such as Misrata, Khoms and the western coastal towns.
A heightened security presence along with traffic disruptions are expected in the vicinity of the protest.
The protest comes after the LNA launched an airstrike against the Nawasi Headquaters located in Abu Sitta port, close to central Tripoli on September 27.
The LNA launched an offensive into southern Tripoli on April 4. The advance halted 10km south of central Tripoli within a week and frontlines have remained largely static since. Throughout this time, LNA precision strikes have targeted military assets operating from Tripoli's Mitiga International Airport (MJI) and Misrata International Airport (MRA). Disruption to civilian air operations has been minimal.
Individuals in Tripoli are advised to monitor the situation, avoid all public demonstrations as a precaution, anticipate localized disruptions, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities.
