Roads in Carchi province, including the International Rumichaca Bridge which links to Colombia, have been reopened as of Monday, October 1, following seven days of economic protests. Protesters in Carchi reportedly reached an agreement with government representatives on Monday, September 30, following hours of negotiation to address the citizens’ economic and social grievances. The vice prefect of Carchi announced on Tuesday that operations to clear the Pan-American Highway have begun and traffic is returning to normal in the town of Tulcán, where significant disruptions had taken place during the demonstrations. Residual disruptions are possible in the coming days as the situation normalizes.


Individuals in Carchi are advised to monitor the situation and obey all instructions issued by the local authorities.
