Protests reported in Gbêkê region on October 2 following arrest of politician; further protests likely in coming days

Protesters gathered in the towns of Botro and Languibonou (Gbêkê region) on Wednesday, October 2, demanding the release of Jacques Mangoua, vice-president of the Democratic Party of Cote d'Ivoire, following his arrest on Monday, September 30. Further protests are expected to take place on Thursday, October 3, when he will be tried in a court in Bouaké.

A heightened security presence and localized transportation disruptions, including roadblocks, are expected around demonstrations. Clashes between protesters and police cannot be ruled out.  


Individuals in Gbêkê region are advised to monitor developments to the situation, avoid all public demonstrations as a precaution, adhere to instructions issued by local authorities, and anticipate a heightened security presence and transportation disruptions.
