Japan News Alert

Japanese Meteorological Agency issues weather warnings in several southwest prefectures as of October 3; heavy rain, flooding, landslides, and transport disruptions possible

TIMEFRAME expected from 10/3/2019, 12:00 AM until 10/3/2019, 11:59 PM (Asia/Tokyo). COUNTRY/REGION Oita, Ehime, Kochi

Event

The Japanese Meteorological Agency (JMA) issued severe weather warnings for parts of Oita, Ehime, and Kochi prefectures in southwest Japan as of 09:25 (local time) on Thursday, October 3. The JMA has forecast ground-loosening heavy rain and flooding, which may cause landslides in the region.

Power outages and transport disruptions are possible in the affected areas over the coming hours and days.

Advice

Individuals in the affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports, adhere to instructions issued by local authorities, anticipate adverse weather and power and transportation disruptions, and remember that running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) is enough to knock over an adult - and never drive through flooded streets; floodwater may also contain wastewater and chemical products.
