A 24-hour nationwide transportation strike is ongoing across Ecuador on Thursday, October 3, one day after President Lenín Moreno announced an end to fuel subsidies. Prices of gasoline and diesel are expected to rise as a result of the move. Significant disruptions to bus and taxi services have been reported across Ecuador, and most access roads to Quito International Airport (UIO) have been blocked. In addition to the strike, protests are reportedly being held in major urban centers across the country, notably in Quito, Cuenca, and Loja

Localized transportation and business disruptions and an increased demand for alternative transportation are expected during the strike action.

Individuals in Ecuador are advised to monitor developments to the situation, prepare for transportation disruptions and make alternative arrangements if possible, and avoid all protests as a precaution.
