The Extinction Rebellion (XR) environmentalist group is organizing disruptive protests in multiple cities across Canada on Monday, October 7. Protesters are being called to blocked traffic on major bridges, including the Angus L. Macdonald Bridge in Halifax, the Burrard Street Bridge in Vancouver, and the Prince Edward Viaduct in Toronto, starting at 07:30 (local time). According to a XR representative in Nova Scotia, only emergency vehicles will be allowed to cross the Macdonald bridge. However, cyclists and pedestrians will not be blocked.

Significant traffic disruptions are anticipated around the protest sites, along with a heightened security presence. Other associated rallies may also be held in major urban areas throughout Canada.

Context

The Extinction Rebellion environmental group has organized disruptive protests around the world since November 2018 to demand increased action to address climate change issues. XR is planning a series of international protests starting the week of October 7.
