On Friday, October 4, authorities deployed hundreds of additional police patrols in Yangon region's townships ahead of the Thadingyut and Tazaungdaing festivals, to be held on Sunday, October 13, and Tuesday, November 12.

The decision was made amid warnings issued on Thursday, September 26, by several foreign embassies reporting potential attacks in the cities of Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon, and Mandalay on October 16 and October 26

A heightened security presence is to be expected in the Yangon region ahead and during the festivals.
