Around 1000 environmental activists affiliated with the Extinction Rebellion movement are staging a protest in the Italie Deux shopping mall in Paris as of Saturday evening (local time), October 5, amid a heightened police presence. Unconfirmed reports indicate police have used pepper spray or tear gas to attempt to disperse the protesters.

A heightened security presence and disruptions to transportation and business are to be expected in the area over the coming hours. Clashes between protesters and police cannot be ruled out.
