Independence Day celebrations to be held nationwide on October 9; heightened security presence and associated disruptions expected

Uganda will hold Independence Day celebrations on Wednesday, October 9, to celebrate the country's 57th anniversary of independence from the United Kingdom. Events will be held nationwide, with state celebrations due to take place in Sironko district (Bugisu region) starting at 07:00 (local time). Several important dignitaries are expected to attend the state celebrations, including President Yoweri Museveni as well as other regional statesmen. 

A heightened security presence, as well as business and transport disruptions, are expected throughout the country during the holiday. 


Individuals in Uganda are advised to monitor the situation, anticipate transportation and business disruptions, avoid all public gatherings as a precaution, and adhere to any instructions issued by the local authorities.
