The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) has forecast Typhoon Hagibis to affect south and southeast Japan from Friday, October 11, through Saturday, October 12, as it moves through the Philippines Sea. The storm is expected to bring heavy rain and strong winds to the northern Ryukyu Islands, and parts of the Kyushu, Shikoku, and Honshu islands.
Associated transportation disruptions, including to flights, rail, and ferry service, are possible in the affected areas. Power outages may also occur.
Individuals in the affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports, confirm flight reservations, adhere to instructions issued by local authorities, anticipate adverse weather and power and transportation disruptions, and remember that running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) is enough to knock over an adult - and never drive through flooded streets; floodwater may also contain wastewater and chemical products.
