Energy company Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) announced on Monday, October 7, that it may cut power to residents in 30 counties due to strong, dry winds posing a threat for forest fires. The National Weather Service has issued a warning of the potential of rapid spread of fire, as well as potentially strong, damaging winds with low humidity.
If implemented, the cuts may last up to seven days and may affect northern, central, coastal and Bay Area counties, or an estimated 2 million residents.
Individuals in the affected areas are advised to monitor the situation, keep battery-operated devices fully charged whenever possible, and to be cautious when driving or crossing streets if traffic signals are not functioning.
