A group of Arab Israelis have launched convoys from the north of the country to Jerusalem as of Thursday, October 10, to protest rising crime and murder rates among the Arab population. Several convoys traveling from Majd al-Krum, Shfar'am, and Haifa are set to gather at the Latrun Junction. The united convoy will then head to the government precinct on Rothschild Square in Jerusalem, where a protest will be held.
Traffic disruptions along with a heightened security presence were reported on Route 6 as of the morning (local time) on Thursday, and are expected to last over the coming hours. A heightened security presence is also to be expected in the vicinity of the protest site. Associated protests are likely over the coming days.
The Higher Arab Monitoring Committee has launched an associated nationwide strike on October 3 following the killing of two brothers in Majd al-Krum.
According to AMAN Center - Arab Center for Safe Society, 71 Arab-Israelis have been killed including 60 men and 11 women, in an upsurge of violence within Arab communities since the beginning of 2019.
Individuals in Israel are advised to monitor developments to the situation, adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities, and anticipate transportation disruptions and heightened security measures.
