Protesters in Paris have begun to occupy two main arteries in the center of the city as of 10:00 (local time) on Thursday, October 10. The Rue de Rivoli and Boulevard Sébastopol have been reportedly blocked, likely causing the streets' closures to traffic. It is unclear as to when the streets' occupation will end and circulation restored.
Associated transportation disruptions are to be expected in the vicinity of the protests over the coming several hours. A heightened security presence will also remain until the protests are dispersed.
The Extinction Rebellion environmental group has organized disruptive protests around the world since November 2018 to demand increased action to address climate change issues. XR is planning a series of international protests starting the week of Monday, October 7.
Individuals in Paris are advised to avoid the affected area, expect transportation delays, monitor developments, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
