On Wednesday, October 9, an estimated 50 members of the Ta'ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) attacked a military convoy in Lashio district (Shan state). The ambush, targeting four patrol vehicles, occurred around 06:30 (local time) leaving three soldiers dead and three injured.
Later on, gunshots were reportedly fired sometime between 06:30 and 08:00, injuring seven civilians. It has not been confirmed whether the two incidents are related.
Further attacks and violent clashes between armed groups and Burmese security forces in Shan state and the Mandalay region are to be expected over the coming days and weeks.
Individuals in Shan state are advised to monitor developments to the situation, remain vigilant for militant and military activity, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities and their home governments.
