The National Hurricane Center (NHC) has forecast Tropical Depression Fifteen will impact the northeastern Cape Verde islands on Wednesday, October 16. According to the NHC, the storm is expected to bring rainfall totals of 3-8 cm (1-3 in) across the eastern and northern islands through Wednesday, with the potential to trigger flashflooding and mudslides. The Center also forecasts possible strong winds across the eastern islands through Wednesday.
As of 02:00 (local time) on Wednesday, Fifteen was located at 16.8°N 23.7°W (map here) with maximum sustained winds of 56 kph (35 mph). The storm is moving west-northwest at 16 kph (10 mph) and is expected to track in a similar or northwest direction while it weakens in the coming days.
Business and transportation disruptions, including flight delays or cancelations, are possible.
Individuals in the affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports, confirm flight reservations, adhere to instructions issued by local authorities, anticipate adverse weather and power and transportation disruptions, and remember that running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) is enough to knock over an adult - and never drive through flooded streets; floodwater may also contain wastewater and chemical products.
