Extinction Rebellion (XR) environmental activists are causing significant disruptions to DLR and Tube services in London as of 07:00 (local time) on Thursday, October 17. Representatives of the DLR have said that there is no service between Bank/Tower Gateway and West India Quay/Poplar. Transport for London (TfL) has also reported disruptions on the Jubilee Tube line westbound.
A heightened security presence and further transportation disruptions are expected in London, as well as an increased demand for alternative means of transport in the coming hours.
The Extinction Rebellion (XR) environmental group has organized disruptive protests around the world since November 2018 to demand increased action to address climate change issues. XR held a series of international protests between October 7-14.
Individuals in London are advised to monitor developments to the situation, avoid all demonstrations, expect transportation and business disruptions, plan alternate routes and additional time to reach their destinations, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
