Air quality reaches unhealthy levels in Hong Kong October 19-21, situation expected to persist over the coming days

As of Monday, October 21, air quality in Hong Kong remains at unhealthy levels in multiple locations across the city with an Air Quality Index (AQI) reading peaking at 120 at 18:00 (local time) in Causeway Bay. The situation is expected to persist over the coming days.


Hong Kong has been affected by poor air quality levels since October 19.

An AQI reading of 0-50 is considered good, 51-100 moderate, and 101-200 unhealthy.


Individuals in Hong Kong are advised to monitor the situation, limit outdoor activities until the situation normalizes, and wear N95 rated masks as a protection. Children and those with chronic respiratory illnesses should exercise increased caution. Individuals are advised to seek medical attention if experiencing breathing difficulties or other health concerns.
