Broad Front candidate Daniel Martínez and National Party Luis Lacalle Pou are to face off at a second round presidential election on Sunday, November 24, following a first-round election on Sunday, October 27. Neither candidate reached the 50 percent plus one vote needed to avoid a second round, with Martinez bringing in 39.2 percent of the vote and Pou 28.6 percent.

Political rallies, events, and demonstrations are likely to take place in the lead-up to the election. A heightened security presence and associated transportation disruptions are therefore to be expected in the coming several days and weeks in Montevideo and other urban centers.

Individuals in Uruguay are advised to monitor the situation for potential gatherings and protests, avoid all public demonstrations as a precaution, anticipate localized disruption and a heightened security presence in the event of any demonstrations, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities.
