According to Egyptian officials, security forces have killed 13 suspected militants in a raid on an alleged militant hideout in Al-Arish (North Sinai province) on Tuesday, October 29. The forces reportedly found explosives and other weapons at the suspected militants' hideout.

On Monday, October 28, a police officer was killed and three others were wounded in a militant attack in Sheikh Zuweid (North Sinai province).

Similar attacks and associated security operations are to be expected in the Sinai Peninsula over the near term.

The operation comes as security forces continue to carry out counterterrorism raids in the area under the auspices of "Comprehensive Operation - Sinai 2018," which aims to neutralize militant and terrorist groups operating in the Sinai, Nile Delta, and the Western Desert.

Individuals in Egypt are advised to monitor developments, adhere to instructions issued by local authorities and their home governments, report suspicious behavior and objects to the authorities, remain vigilant when visiting areas susceptible to terror activity (e.g. tourist sites, churches, international and government buildings, public transportation hubs, etc.), and anticipate similar security operations over the near term.b
