On Tuesday, October 29, Turkish authorities confirmed that an Islamic State (IS) terror plot was foiled in Istanbul. Police reportedly arrested three suspected IS members who planned to target Republic Day celebrations. The detentions come one day after 20 foreign nationals allegedly linked to IS were arrested in Ankara.
A heightened security presence is expected in Ankara, Istanbul, and other major urban centers in the coming days. Further counterterrorism raids are possible over the near term.
Individuals in Turkey are advised to remain vigilant for militant and criminal behavior, report any suspicious behavior or objects to the authorities, and adhere to all instructions and advice issued by local authorities and their home governments.
