Thousands participated in a demonstration organized by Greenpeace Romania in Bucharest on Sunday, November 3, denouncing illegal logging. An estimated 4000 people marched toward the water and forest ministry in the capital demanding investigations into the recent deaths of two forest workers by suspected illegal loggers. Associated protests were reported in other major urban centers.
Further related protests are possible in the coming days and weeks. A heightened security presence, as well as transportation and business disruptions, are expected near all protest sites.
Individuals in Bucharest are advised to monitor developments to the situation, avoid all demonstrations as a precaution, anticipate transportation disruptions, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
