The Egyptian army has announced in a statement on Monday, November 4, that security forces have killed 83 suspected militants during security operations in the Sinai Peninsula since Saturday, September 28. The forces reportedly killed 77 militants in northern and central Sinai, and explosives and other weapons were found at the suspected militants' hideouts. Six other militants were reportedly killed in firefights with security forces in the region. The statement also reads that 61 suspected militants were arrested.

Context

The operations come as security forces continue to carry out counterterrorism raids in the area under the auspices of "Comprehensive Operation - Sinai 2018," which aims to neutralize militant and terrorist groups operating in the Sinai, Nile Delta, and the Western Desert.
