Cyclonic Storm Bulbul formed in the Bay of Bengal during the early morning hours (local time) of Thursday, November 7. The cyclone is moving north towards West Bengal and is expected to intensify into a Severe Cyclonic Storm within the next 24 hours. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) warned on Thursday that light to moderate rainfall is expected throughout Andaman and Nicobar Islands into Friday, November 8. Rainfall warnings are also in effect for Odisha and West Bengal from Saturday, November 9, through Monday, November 11. Flooding, power outages, and landslides are possible in Odisha and West Bengal as the cyclone approaches the coast. Associated business and transportation disruptions are also expected.
Individuals in the affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports, confirm flight reservations, adhere to instructions issued by local authorities, anticipate adverse weather and power and transportation disruptions, and remember that running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) is enough to knock over an adult - and never drive through flooded streets; floodwater may also contain wastewater and chemical products.
