Heavy snowfall continues in Jammu and Kashmir November 7-8; transportation disruptions and power outages reported

Flight cancelations were reported at the Srinagar International Airport (SXR) on Thursday, November 7, following heavy snowfall impacting Jammu and Kashmir since Wednesday, November 6. Power outage have been reported, as well as road closures on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway and roads from Srinagar to the Gurez, Macchail, Keran, and Tangdhar areas. As of Friday, November 8, at least seven people died in snow-rel ted incidents.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), heavy snowfall is forecast to continue through Friday.

Transportation disruptions are likely to continue in the region over the coming days.


Individuals in Jammu and Kashmir are advised to confirm road conditions prior to travel, follow local weather reports, and adhere to any instructions issued by the local authorities, including warnings to stay off roads.

As a reminder, some Western governments advise their citizens against travel to parts of Kashmir, notably areas along the Line of Control (border), due to the significant risk of violence.
