The Moroccan Central Bureau of Judicial Investigation (BCIJ) announced on Tuesday, November 12, that it had arrested a suspected IS militant in Guelmim. Authorities claim the individual had sworn allegiance to IS and was using electronic platforms and apps to propagate its ideology. The BCIJ has seized several electronic devices, cell phones, and power cables during the operation.
Similar counterterrorism operations are possible in Morocco in the near term.
Morocco has a persistent low-level threat of terrorism. In 2017, 17 people died in the bombing of a popular market in Marrakesh.
Individuals in Morocco are advised to remain vigilant for militant and criminal behavior, report any suspicious behavior or objects to relevant authorities, and adhere to all instructions and advice issued by local authorities and their home governments.
