As of Thursday, November 14, hazardous air quality levels have again been registered in Delhi, prompting all school to close through Friday, November 15. The air quality index (AQI) reached 621 in Delhi at around 18:00 (local time). According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), strong winds are forecast to improve the situation on Friday.

Health officials declared a public health emergency on November 1 due to the "Severe+" level of air pollution in New Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR), and transport authorities implemented and odd-even road rationing scheme across the city, effective through November 15. A ban has also been issued on hot-mix plants and stone crusher plants in Delhi-NCR as part of governmental anti-pollution measures.

An AQI reading of 0-50 is considered good, 51-100 moderate, and 101-200+ unhealthy.

Advice

Individuals in New Delhi and the National Capital Region are advised to monitor the situation, limit outdoor activities until the situation normalizes, and wear N95 rated masks for protection. Children and those with chronic respiratory illnesses should exercise increased caution. Individuals are advised to seek medical attention if experiencing breathing difficulties or other health concerns.
