The US Geological Survey (USGS) recorded a 7.1-magnitude earthquake around 138 km (85 mi) northwest of the island of Ternate (North Maluku province) on Thursday, November 14. The quake struck at a depth of 45 km (27 mi). A tsunami threat warning has been immediately issued. Aftershocks are possible in the affected area over the coming hours and days.
