Event

Pope Francis is scheduled to visit Bangkok on Wednesday, November 20, through Saturday, November 23. On Thursday, November 21, he is expected to meet several dignitaries and civil servants, including the prime minister, at the Government House, before a private meeting with King Rama X at Dusit Palace. Later on Thursday, he will hold a holy mass at the National Stadium from 18:00 (local time). Tens of thousands of people are expected to attend the mass, and localized transportation disruptions are anticipated. A second smaller holy mass is scheduled on Friday, November 22, at Assumption Cathedral from 17:00. The Pope is also due to hold meetings at various locations throughout the capital during his visit. On Saturday, Pope Francis will fly from Bangkok to Tokyo (Japan); a farewell ceremony will be held at the Don Muang Royal Thai Air Force Base at 09:15.

Heightened security measures, including an increase in checkpoints and movement restrictions, will likely be in place around all of papal events and at the airport. Crowded conditions are anticipated in Bangkok during the papal visit.

Advice

Individuals in Bangkok, and Thailand more generally, are advised to monitor developments to the situation, remain vigilant in large public gatherings, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities. Anticipate increased security measures and localized transportation disruptions (including crowded conditions) near events related to the papal visit.
