Police impose a curfew in Port Sudan November 18 – November 19 following tribal clashes; heightened security presence expected

Police authorities imposed a curfew in Port Sudan on Monday, November 18, at 17:00 (local time) following tribal clashes between the Beni Amer and Hadendowa tribes earlier in the day in the area, in which at least three people died and 24 others were wounded. The curfew is expected to remain in place until Tuesday, November 19, at 17:00, although it may extend on short notice.

A heightened security presence is to be expected in Port Sudan over the near term. Associated transportation and business disruptions cannot be ruled out.  


Individuals in Port Sudan are advised to monitor the situation, anticipate a heightened security presence and associated transportation and business disruptions, refrain from nonessential movement in areas affected by the fighting, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities and their home governments.
