A 6.3-magnitude earthquake strikes northwest of of Ozernovskiy (Kamtchatka) on November 20; no immediate reports of damages

The US Geological Survey (USGS) recorded a 6.3-magnitude earthquake about 267 km (165 mi) northwest of Ozernovskiy (Kamtchatka) on Wednesday, November 20. According to the USGS, the quake hit at approximately 08:26 (local time) at a depth of 486 km (301 mi). There were no immediate reports of damages in the area.

Aftershocks are possible in the affected area over the coming hours and days.


Individuals in the region are advised to monitor the situation and prepare for potential aftershocks.

In the event of aftershocks, individuals are advised to protect themselves as much as possible from falling debris if indoors (e.g. under a table), move away from the windows, and not attempt to leave a building unless there is an immediate danger. If outdoors, move away from tall buildings, utility wires, and streetlights.
