Uganda News Alert

Students plan protest in Kampala on November 21; heightened security presence expected

TIMEFRAME expected from 11/21/2019, 12:00 AM until 11/22/2019, 11:59 PM (Africa/Kampala). COUNTRY/REGION Uganda

Over 270 students from the Law Development Centre (LDC) plan to gather in front of the LDC, located at Plot 339, on Gaddafi road in Kampala, on Thursday, November 21. The exact time for the protest remains unclear as of the morning (local time) on Thursday. Protesters who seek to demand the release of August examination results are then expected to march to the parliament building to present a petition. Police forces have been asked to intervene to prevent the protest from taking place. As such, a heightened security presence is likely in the vicinity of the protest in the coming hours. Clashes between students and security forces cannot be ruled out.

Individuals in Kampala are advised to monitor the situation, avoid any related public demonstrations as a precaution, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities.
