Syria News Alert

TIMEFRAME expected from 11/21/2019, 12:00 AM until 11/22/2019, 11:59 PM (Asia/Damascus). COUNTRY/REGION Idlib province

At least 22 civilians were killed in attacks by Russian-backed government forces in Idlib province on Wednesday, November 20. A ground-to-ground missile reportedly struck an internally displaced persons (IDP) camp in the village of Qah, killing 16 people and wounding dozens of others. In a separate incident, six civilians were killed in an air raid on the town of Maaret al-Numan.

Similar attacks are expected in Idlib province over the near term.

To date, the Syrian conflict involves many parties, including the Syrian government, the Russian government, the Iranian government, the Turkish government, a US-led coalition, and numerous armed groups on the ground (including the Islamic State) with competing goals.

Due to extremely poor security conditions, Western governments generally advise against all travel to Syria, with some banning travel to the country. Professional security advice and support should be sought prior to any travel to Syria.
