TransLink bus drivers in Vancouver represented by the Unifor labor union are planning to go on strike from Wednesday, November 27, through Friday, November 29, to demand a better offer from the Coast Mountain Bus Company. The transport workers will also picket during the strike and supporters are being called to rally outside TransLink offices at 13:00 (local time) on Thursday, November 28. Unifor decided to escalate the industrial actions after negotiations broke down over increasing wages. Further information can be found on the union website here.

Public transportation disruptions are expected throughout Vancouver if the strike is held. Further escalations in industrial actions are also possible if talks continue to break down between the union and management.

Unifor launched an initial round of strike actions on Friday, November 1, with a uniform ban by transit operators (drivers will not wear the Coast Mountain Bus Company uniform) and an overtime ban by maintenance workers.

Individuals in Vancouver are advised to monitor developments to the situation, anticipate disruptions to public bus services, and to plan alternative modes of transportation.
