Indonesia: Explosion in Jakarta December 3


An investigation into an explosion that wounded two police officers in the National Monument Park in Central Jakarta is ongoing as of 12:45 (local time) on Tuesday, December 3. According to initial reports, the two officers were exercising in the park on Tuesday morning when they noticed a suspicious object, which is now believed to have been a smoke grenade. Police officials said one of the officers picked up the object which then exploded in his hand. A cordon around the blast area was lifted around 10:30, along with vehicle checkpoints on nearby roads. According to media reports, traffic on Jl. Merdeka Utara has returned to normal.


Individuals in Jakarta are advised to monitor developments to the situation, report any suspicious activity or objects to the police, and obey all instructions issued by the local authorities.
