Sudan News Alert

Students and other activists plan a march in Khartoum on December 14 to coincide with the expected ruling on former President Omar al-Bashir’s corruption case

TIMEFRAME expected from 12/9/2019, 11:00 PM until 12/14/2019, 10:59 PM (Africa/Khartoum). COUNTRY/REGION Khartoum

Students and opponents of the former ruling National Congress Party are calling for a march in Khartoum on Saturday, December 14. According to media reports, the demonstration will coincide with the expected announcement of the verdict on former President Omar al-Bashir’s corruption case. As of Monday, December 9, specific details regarding the demonstration have not been released.

A heightened security presence and localized traffic disruptions are anticipated along the march route. Clashes between rival political supporters and security forces are also possible.

Bashir was ousted by the military on April 11, following months of protests. He was later detained and charged with illegal possession and use of foreign money, which is punishable by up to ten years in prison.

Individuals in Khartoum are advised to monitor developments to the situation, avoid all protests and demonstrations as a precaution, anticipate localized transportation disruptions, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities.
