The Australian Federation of Air Pilots (AFAP) and the Transport Workers’ Union (TWU) confirmed on Monday, December 9, that Jetstar pilots and workers will hold a series of industrial actions on Saturday, December 14, and Sunday, December 15. A series of four-hour strikes totaling 24 hours will be held between the two days. Jetstar ground crew works will also hold two two-hour work stoppages on Friday, December 13, at airports in Sydney, Melbourne, Avalon, Brisbane, Cairns, and Adelaide. According to local media reports, Jetstar has stopped selling seats on some weekend flights as of Tuesday, December 10, ahead of the upcoming strike. Up-to-date information on Jetstar services can be found on the airline’s website here.

Significant flight disruptions, including delays, modified timetables, and cancelations, are possible if the strikes are held.

AFAP leaders are calling for a 15 percent pay increase for pilots. Ground crew members are also demanding wage increases as well as 30 work hours guaranteed per week.

Potentially impacted travelers are advised to monitor developments to the situation, confirm the status of their flights prior to departure, and to contact their airline for additional information.
